current technologies

when i produce music for my work i generally use software, reason for the compositions and synthesisers, wavelab/cooledit pro for the mastering, edits and sampling. There's a great deal of constriction with these programs, I can only work with the available synths (although there are literally thousands available, not counting the hundreds of effects i can use to change the oscillation, attack, release etc. of the sound) or chop up samples from various wav/mp3 files. However, the involvement of these programs in my current project would be quite appropriate as they are accessible, intuitive and user-friendly means of music production. i would however, like to experiment with other ways of creating sound to be used in a composition, and maybe look at ways of converting sound to image???
