sight n sound

i've been messin about trying to create music from non-audio samples such as jpegs and psd files, when you load them on to editing software they make some pretty crazy noises, thought it might work as part of my project. i got the idea from the aptly-named artist, pixel , then i stumbled upon a producer called alvo noto (check 'u-06' below) who makes tunes exclusively from visual files..and then this label which BOTH pixel, alvo noto and various other artists of a similar delectation have releases on. shit.

alvo noto 'u_06'

...and this is my lame attempt

Stevie Wonder Interview on Technology

Click on the image above to see Stevie Wonder talking about his relationship with technology and its accessibility to blind people. He talks about "counting the clicks" in order to work out which letter he was on when texting and calls companies "weak" for not expanding their budgets in order to create products more accessible to the physically challenged.

current technologies

when i produce music for my work i generally use software, reason for the compositions and synthesisers, wavelab/cooledit pro for the mastering, edits and sampling. There's a great deal of constriction with these programs, I can only work with the available synths (although there are literally thousands available, not counting the hundreds of effects i can use to change the oscillation, attack, release etc. of the sound) or chop up samples from various wav/mp3 files. However, the involvement of these programs in my current project would be quite appropriate as they are accessible, intuitive and user-friendly means of music production. i would however, like to experiment with other ways of creating sound to be used in a composition, and maybe look at ways of converting sound to image???

da plan : accessibility

i feel that our relationship with technology is greatly defined with it's increasing accessibility. What was originally elite has become available to the masses, i want to create a work that communicates the idea of accessibility.
