Sonic Visualiser

So i was messing about with the iTunes visualiser stuff and a program called Sonic Visualiser, but i find the kind of 'psychadelic' moving images a little cheesy since i've seen them so many times, sonic Visualiser is a little better...

Tune!!

This is my little composition, needs mastering. I've messed about with the pitch and used alot of that 'ice cream truck' thing, also reversed a few sounds and added a little bit of reverb.

WAV recorder and effects..

These are the sounds recorded using the Roland Ediron WAV recorder..

Digital Camera

Various Lightswitch/Power Supply clicks

Ipod Scroll and Click

There's an effect on this mastering software Cool Edit Pro, called 'Ice Cream Truck' in the notch filter section, it affixes high end tones to sounds in a wave form and gives it a kind of melody. Think these will work pretty well for the composition...

Elevator Enter & Up (Ice Cream Truck effect)

Also, i've noticed that alot of the embedded audio players don't work on some computers, so you can hear them via zshare on the links below the players.

Visuals

So my original intention was to create visuals with the aforementioned metasynth, for some reason only the 16 bit version was compatible with the newest version of Leopard and I could only get a hold of the 32bit. bastard. So i'm working with these.. Sound Warp and Forwinds 'Parallel 1.2.' which is a real time midi-controllable music visualiser, lookin forward to testin it out once the songs done, some example screenshots from the site..

Here's something i did... i loaded some of my recorded sounds onto Sound Warp, it converts them to a Bitmap, you can then warp them and convert them back to audio files and save them. You can get it free here

sound recording

I've experimented with a few sound recording devices, a mobile phone, a mic and handicam & a Roland Edirol R-09HR WAV recorder. The mobile was terrible (see below) and the handicam mic was only a little bit better, the WAV recorder was really good though, it picked up sounds perfectly. So I'm currently recording the technologies I come in contact with today, I looked pretty stupid at the cash machine and as I was recording the elevator in my building a group of people came in n totally talked over all the beeps n "lift going down" stuff aaaah. Lookin forward to composing this beat though, the recordings are soundin gooood.

Mobile Phone Sounds

Recording from a mobile is annoyin as hell, the sound quality sucks and the only reason that might be good is all the static might create some interesting noises on the ol' 'ice cream truck' effect... BUT they're amf. files and impossible to edit!!! anway here they are proof that i did them, they open in quicktime.
lift
microwave
toaster (so bad)
On this day I recorded the kettle, toaster, lift, college card swipe, a cash machine (both so shit it wasn't worth postin them up, they could seriously be anything), microwave, laptop (typing, starting up, closing down etc.), soo wont be using them.

yesss

Right, well happy cos i've got a hold of some really interestin new software, first of all Soundhack Spectral Shapers, a collection of filters for creative manipulation of sound which can be wired up with cubase more info here

More importantly i've got something to finally help me with the visuals, Metasynth Pro, a sound design software wherein you can use 'Image Synth' and 'Image Filter Room' to "paint" sound, so basically u can create images which you can turn into sounds, the most famous example are Aphex Twin...

options for sound recording

So i'm considering what sounds i could record for this piece, I thought maybe a day of the technologies i come into contact with ie. the kettle boiling, my mobile, the elevator, the card-swipe in college etc.. then possibly creat something interactive/a composition or tune out of the sounds/an animation??? just some thoughts....
I've tried it with my flatmates mobile - its sounds shit. It was suggested I try a DAT or a Flash Recorder but they're not available in college so don't know how i'll get a hold of them, i've got handicam mic and am waitin on a decent sound recorder which should be in the AV studio on thursday....
